Recommended Supplies for Postpartum
HerbLore Sitz Herbs
HerbLore is one of my all time favorite brands for anything herbal. Once you've cooked up the tea for soaking, you can also wrap the warm, freshly cooked herbs in a piece of clean t-shirt cloth, to make a poultice that will feel amazing when applied directly to the perineum. If you have any questions, you can contact the owner directly and she'll be a great help. Also see their Teething and Tummy Tinctures for babies! |
MotherLove Rhoid Balm We all know this is a major issue for many postpartum bodies, and having an effective and soothing remedy is essential! This combines well with the sitz herbs above. |
Frida Mom Disposable Postpartum Underwear Everyone that gives birth will find that they need some extra stretchy, soft underoos for a few weeks. These are super well-reviewed, and are a step up from what the hospital or home birth kit would send you. They can be hand washed and re-used a few times, and hold your pad in place without adding any uncomfortable pressure. Dairy Fairy Rose All-in-One Nursing & Pumping Bra My clients rave about this brand! It's so much more convenient to wear a bra that can comfortably offer you good access for nursing (without limiting milk flow by applying pressure in the wrong places), as well as easy hands-free pumping. This version doesn't have an underwire, and looks super comfy. |
Dairy Fairy Ayla All-in-One Nursing & Pumping Bra This is the same loved brand as above, and offers the same benefits of full access for nursing plus easy hands-free pumping, but contains an underwire for additional support (and is pretty cute too). My client said this one made pumping at work a breeze, and she totally loved it. |
Wellevate
It's usually recommended that people continue to take a quality Prenatal Vitamin throughout their postpartum months, and I'd suggest you make sure has methylated folate in it, not just the cheap folic acid found in many brands. You can find some of my favorite products for both newborn care and postpartum recovery once you've created your account (just click the 'Shop Products' button, and my favs will appear at the top of the list). Wellevate is a dispensary offered by Emerson Ecologics, which is a fantastic company that I really trust. (Click here for more info on why they're a safer and more reliable resource than Amazon.) If you create an account through this link, you'll receive a lifetime savings of 10% off each order you place with them. Please do consult with the appropriate provider for your situation before purchasing, and feel free to reach out with any questions. |

Mother Nurture: A Mother's Guide to Health in Body, Mind & Intimate Relationships
This is one of the only books I know of that really explores the concept of 'Depleted Mother Syndrome'. It discusses what parenthood demands of us, and how we can, step by step, look at and address the areas of our lives and self care that are lacking or adding to our depletion. I find it to be very empowering and honest, and recommend it to every new parent. (One significant downside is that it is extremely heteronormative, and oriented fully toward cis-women who have given birth.) |
