Biography
I am pleased to serve folk and families throughout the life span, from well woman care to fertility support, to birth and beyond. I strive always to uphold the midwifery model of care, offering information and empowerment, so that my clients can look back on their accomplishments with pride and a deeper sense of their own true power and wisdom.
I live in Marin County, and offer services virtually, and throughout the Bay Area and North Bay. My favorite ways to spend my non-working hours are reading novels, walking in nature, visiting with friends, and of course, spending time with my amazing family. In 2018 my co-parent and I were blessed with a baby through the foster-to-adopt system, and we are in awe and love with him every day.
Training & Education:
I received a B.A. in Psychology (with a focus on life span development and parent-infant attachment) from Mills College in 1999. My first job out of college was working with high-risk pregnant and postpartum families at Early Head Start in Portland, Oregon, where I created a curriculum for a combination of in-home care and classroom experience. In 2001 I became a Birth and Postpartum Doula, and two years later I moved back to the Bay Area to begin my studies in midwifery. To support myself in the course of those studies, I worked as a Postpartum Doula, facilitated parent's groups, and taught classes in newborn care, breastfeeding and postpartum preparation at CPMC, Kaiser and Natural Resources. I also, in this period, worked with the Foster & Kincare Education Program for Marin County, where I scheduled workshops and co-facilitated support groups for kincare families who were fostering grandchildren, nieces and nephews that had landed in the foster system.
In the course of my training I studied with many amazing midwives, attended the National Midwifery Institute, apprenticed to Sue Baelen of Sacred Body Midwifery for three years, and in 2010 received by my license to practice midwifery in California (LM) and my certification to practice nationally (CPM). In 2013 I further expanded my training, becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). In 2018, I again expanded my horizons, studying to become an Infant Craniosacral Therapist (CST-I), for which I was certified the following year.
My Practice:
I am delighted to offer support groups for Queer, Solo and Prospective parents, prenatal classes in newborn care, breastfeeding, chidbirth refresher and sibling preparation, professional classes in basic and advanced breastfeeding for birth workers, lactation consultation, prenatal and postpartum midwifery consultation, fertility consultation and craniosacral therapy for infants. Since 2009 I have had the pleasure of working with At Home Fertility to support Bay Area families by offering in home inseminations. In 2015 I moved to the North Bay and launched At Home Fertility's Northern Hub, where I am honored to serve as the primary midwife for our in-home insemination services for Marin, Napa, Solano & Sonoma Counties.
As of 2014, I will not be offering midwifery care for birth. I will to continue to offer prenatal and postpartum consultations throughout the Bay Area, and look forward to hearing from you.
