Supplemental Sibling Preparation in the Home
(An optional, private add-on to the Childbirth Refresher & Sibling Preparation class)
In this personalized, sibling-focused, private class, we invite your older child/ren to join us for a flexible, child-led experience in their own home. We may read sibling or baby-related books, watch birth or sibling-related videos, or play with our dolls together. We can get out the fetoscope or doppler and listen to the baby's heartbeat, discussing what they might be like once they're on the outside. It is often helpful to take a tour of their home together, so we can look at where the baby will sleep, eat, play and get it's diaper changed, discussing how the sibling/s might feel, how they are different, and what they can expect. Our focus is on offering your older child/ren a chance to learn a little about what to expect in a safe environment, at their own pace. We may spend much of our time just playing with their toys and giving them attention for their own sake, reassuring them that even as we focus on the coming baby, they remain important, interesting and loved.
This sibling-led portion may last anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour and a half, depending on where they are at and how things are flowing at the time. As this class is an optional add-on following the Childbirth Refresher & Sibling Preparation class, I will be well equipped to tailor the books, videos, topics and approach to your particular child/ren based our earlier explorations in class. Parents will receive a list of books, videos and ideas that we will have created some context for, so that they may continue the conversation as a family in the weeks that follow.
This course is offered as a private class in clients homes as an optional add-on,
available at this reduced rate only to those who have completed
the Childbirth Refresher & Sibling Preparation class.
