Sibling Preparation in the Home
(A Private Class)
In this personalized sibling-focused private class, we focus solely on your older children and how you can best support them in navigating the birth and afterward. We'll meet first with just the adults, so we can explore who they are, what your hopes and concerns may be, whether and how to have them present for the birth itself, and how to speak with and prepare them for their new little sibling and how their family will be changing. I'll share books, videos, handouts, and other resources, tailored to your family's approach and lifestyle.
In the second half of this course, we'll invite your older child/ren to join us for a flexible, child-led experience. We may read the books, watch the videos, and play with our dolls together. We can get out the fetoscope or doppler and listen to the baby's heatbeat, talking about what they might be like once they're on the outside. It can be helpful to take a tour of your home together as well, so we can look at where the baby will sleep, eat, play and get it's diaper changed, discussing how the sibling/s might feel, how they are different, and what they can expect.
This sibling-led portion may last anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour and a half, depending on where they are at and how things are flowing at the time. Parents will receive a list of books, videos and ideas that we will have created some context for, so that they may continue the conversation as a family in the weeks that follow.
This course is offered as a private class in clients homes. I allow about two hours,
with some flexibility to accommodate the needs and mood of your child/ren.
