Advanced Breast, Chest & Bottle Feeding for Birth Workers
Join us for an engaging follow up to Breastfeeding for Professionals, soon to be approved for CEUs through DONA International! These CEUs can be used for recertification through DONA, CAPPA, ICEA and other local and international certifying organizations (check with your organization to confirm).
In this in depth 3 hour class, participants will have the opportunity to ask the questions that have come up since they took their intro class, explore issues that have arisen with clients, and further deepen their understanding of how we can best support new parents in the wild world of feeding babies.
Participants will explore:
- New and fascinating research on lactation
- The risks, benefits and politics of Placentophagy
- Nipple shields - proper indications and method for use, and how to wean off of them
- Alternative feeding methods for babies that require breastfeeding-friendly supplementation: Supplemental Feeding Systems (SNS), cup feeding, syringe and finger feeding
- Issues specific to supporting Solo Parents
- How to appropriately support LGBTQI+ clients, including language and concepts around Chestfeeding and Gender in the context of birthing and lactation
- Supporting Induced Lactation & Re-Lactation in preparation for Co-Parenting, Adoption, Fostering & Surrogacy
This class is open to everyone! It is recommended that you have taken an introductory breastfeeding support class at some point, have breast/chestfed your own babies, or to have supported clients in breast/chestfeeding, so that you have some context for the material we'll cover. If you have not yet taken an introductory class and wish to, I offer those here and you're welcome to join us!
This class DOES meet the requirements for CEUs for Re-Certification through DONA, CAPPA, ICEA and other local and international certifying organizations (check with your organization to confirm),
but DOES NOT meets the Breastfeeding Education requirements for DONA International Certification for Birth & Postpartum Doulas.
